The Year 1990

This was the year Frank started to work on "GameLib", so we see some more games from Gerrit using it and less games from Frank. Gamelib is a C linker library which offers some easy to use functions for game development, like opening game displays, drawing sprites and objects, scrolling, double-buffering, playing sounds and music, joystick and mouse control. The library accesses the custom chip hardware directly. There was also a switch from Aztec-C to the free DICE-C compiler and A68k assembler at this time, which was used together with Gamelib.

Super Sprint (unfinished, playable)

After having a lot of fun playing Super Sprint on the Atari ST together with friends Frank was missing a similar game on his Amiga and started to make a copy of it. It quickly became clear that this was a difficult task, without having access to the original source text or data. The cars are represented by sprites and the game was working so far that you can drive cars around the track, although there have been serious problems with collision detection on the track borders.

Development tools used

Aztec 'as' assembler, DPaint III.

Realm of Evil (unfinished)

After playing "Pirates" for many hours, Gerrit has the idea to start his first game project. It is called "Realm of Evil" and should have been a mixture of Empire, Kaiser and Pirates.

Development tools used

C, Gamelib, DPaint III, Soundtracker.

Wargate (unfinished)

This was Gerrit's second attempt to make a "Pirates"-clone in medieval time. The graphics are more complex than the first try with "Realm of Evil". Some graphics are inspired by the pen and paper role playing game "DSA". In 1990 was no Internet, so it was really hard to find patterns.

Development tools used

C, Gamelib, DPaint III, Soundtracker.
